81% of Ghanaians lack safe cleaning services and facilities and lack water wells. Inadequate maintenance of pipelines, pumping stations and cleaning stations are some of the main causes of the water crisis. 1,000 children under the age of five die each year from diarrhea associated with the use of contaminated water. 6 million people lack safe drinking water, and most of the water that citizens have access to is polluted at very high levels.

Country Facts

In additionally to this land being prone to earthquakes and floods, whole regions of the country are also subject to conflict and violence. Ghana also houses many refugees and asylum seekers. No less than 100,000 people are in need of humanitarian assistance in Ghana.
